Panel: Helping children bear the unbearable

bereavement resilience speaker trauma Feb 02, 2023

I was chuffed to be invited to speak on an impressive panel at a fundraiser for the remarkably touching kids charity @apartofmeapp.

The discussion on 'Designing at the edge: how can we design better services to help children through adverse childhood experiences?' was between the brilliant Graham Music, Ivor Williams, Louis Weinstock and myself.

Apart of Me, co-founded by my clever friend Louis (author of How The World Is Making Our Children Mad and What To Do About It), supports bereaved and traumatised children all over the world through a super-engaging app and a team of trained guides who have been through childhood loss themselves.

It's also worth mentioning that they just launched a new app Nadiya targeted at Ukrainian families (which I happened to consult on earlier last year). They've done a beautiful job with this, please do pass onto any Ukrainians you might know.

"Because, so often, we keep our dead loved ones to ourselves, holding their names, their stories and their absence closed within our grieving hearts. ⁣And this charity, Apart of Me, offer tools and spaces for children and young people to process that, to voice it, to share it with others who understand." Tiu de Haan

I'm so glad there are such smart, creative, inspiring people working towards a better world.
